Pope apologizes for abuse of Aboriginal Canadians in residential schools

As a descendant from the early Algonquin Nations I find it disheartening that so many of these victims have been ignored. As more and more cases are revealed its blatant that the Catholic Church should be held responsible for the psychological and physical damages that they've caused among our people of the First Nations.

"...From the 19th century until the 1970s, more than 150,000 Indian children in Canada were forced to attend state-funded Christian schools as an effort to assimilate them into Canadian society. That legacy of abuse and isolation has been cited by Indian leaders as the root cause of epidemic rates of alcoholism and drug addiction on reservations..."
